What are Otome Games? 'Otome' means maiden in Japanese. So basically, Otome games are visual novels that mainly targets the female audience (otome gēmu means Maiden Game). It's pretty much a graphic novel in digital form. They invite the reader to enjoy a story that usually consist of a series of choices throughout the game. The choices you make change the direction in which the game is going while you are romancing handsome men.
Here we discuss our favorites and least favorites, suggest other games for our fellow maidens and even help each other out when we get stuck on a certain route. Spoiler Tag: !Snape kills Dumbledore!
I do wonder why Rejet isn't for it, though. They let both Diabolik Lovers anime seasons get English dubs. Sure, that is probably more the decision of the anime publishing company, but one would imagine Rejet would have had some influence in the decision. It would be nice if Rejet would give a reason, or if Aksys would be more specific than 'not keen' (which made me laugh way more than it should LOL). I think another reason people still hope is that Poni-Patchet said they would not release an English Ozmafia, but we got it eventually.
So, I guess it is possible (with the information we have), just incredibly unlikely, and people are holding on to that 1%. (Whoa, it got dubbed?!) Anime is the property of a production committee which would be the animation studio, broadcasters, Rejet, the merchandise makers, etc. So no one party has ultimate say over that decision.
Licensing helps recuperate some of the costs which would win over the majority of the committee, I presume. I didn't press because I can imagine details would be NDA, combined with Japanese nos tending to be polite but firm and without a reason. I had guessed it'd be apprehension about their most (in)famous IP, Diabolik Lovers.but in light of recent news that the CEO said, 'We're in the red because people pirate our stuff' and whatnot, it could unfairly be that, too. (Valid concern for PC releases but for Vita, put in a system version check and piracy worries are solved.) On the other hand Poni-Pachet was an indie two-person group. Easier to convince two on their very first project than a commercial enterprise (though small-staff of 47 as of March 2016) who had a sizeable product line by then. Yes, if you've been in the VN community for long enough, you'll realize that to many VN fans it just became second nature/accepted to pirate most/all visual novels you get (especially if it's PC only). For a long time, there weren't many VNs you could get legally easily since there were very few visual novels localized.
However, even though there have been kickstarters (that basically guarantee some profit right off the bat) and a handful of companies localizing VNs in the last few years that's not gonna stop many people who still basically are used to pirating almost all their VNs to stop. And there's also the people who use the excuse they don't like business practices of certain companies to buy VNs and many people aren't going to go back to read a VN they read a fan TL of a long time ago that got an official release if they weren't going to re-read it. But yes while there's a good amount of them there's a good amount of them (including me and us) who have at least come around to supporting VNs that officially come here.
